Like Zagreb, Split is another great place for people watching. It’s the second-largest city of Croatia, and the largest city of the region of Dalmatia. The reason to visit Split is for the fortress-like Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, built at the turn of the fourth century AD. After the Romans abandoned it, though, and some centuries passed, residents occupied the palace, making their homes and businesses within the ancient walls. From here, we’ll split for Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mostar and Sarajevo) for a few days detour before returning to Croatia (Dubrovnik).
