Sochi, Russia

Postcard of the Week #15

We had high hopes for Sochi given how we loved St. Petersburg before it and with the Winter Olympics earlier this year, but the city has never been much of an international tourist destination outside of the games. Since we arrived by cruise ship, we could spend up to 72 hours visa-free as long as we were accompanied by an authorized Russian tour guide. We can’t fault our guide for what she showed us—there simply isn’t much to see. The one great thing that came out of it, though, is being in a tour group we met a lovely British couple, Karen and Neil, who we hope to maintain a friendship with for the long haul.
