London, England: It’s beginning to feel a lot like…

London, England …Christmas!  Like the continual blending of cultures and ethnicity worldwide, so begins the annual blending of holidays.  We arrived in London on Halloween from Bucharest, Romania, but already department stores were dressed in twinkling lights and garland.  It even put us in the mood for gift buying, but that lasted a mere second–we have no room for excess junk in our backpacks! When we first visited London in 2006, we spent what felt like a whirlwind three or four days blowing through all the tourist sites, from Buckingham Palace to Piccadilly Circus to Big Ben.  This time we only allotted two nights because a friend gifted us a stay at the Marriott Park Lane, and to that we say… Thank You from the Marriott Park Lane What a strange experience to be in a luxury hotel back in a first-world country where the primary language is English.  We downplayed in our minds how much we would enjoy London because we had been here before, but now we feel compelled to come back to do the city and the rest of the U.K. justice (the amazing and unseasonably warm weather certainly helped).  Tomorrow, it’s “Farewell, Europe!” and back to the U.S. for a week before we head to South America.
