Lima, Peru

The part in our Disney World post about plucking a Peruvian boy straight out of the jungles was not entirely true. Pepe had been living in Lima with his sister’s family for seven months prior, so he had at least acclimated to being in a large city. This likely made his trip to the U.S. slightly less of a culture shock. We stayed three nights with them in the district of Ate, which is not all a tourist sector. At least we got the “local” experience of cramming standing-room-only into collectivos (public minibuses) to get around and dining at their neighborhood establishments. From here, we were sad to part ways with Pepe. We would meet up with Justin’s mom in São Paulo in a couple of days.
