São Paulo, Brazil
Our first impression of Brazil admittedly wasn’t the best, but what can you expect when your first stop is São Paulo with little time? A five-hour flight from Lima brought us to the largest city in the Americas, where we spent two nights but had only one full day. Justin’s mom, Jayne, flew down to spend Thanksgiving week with us, so together we explored Centro, Mercado Municipal and Avenida Paulista as recommended by Frommer’s. We don’t want to offend our Brazilian friends, but to describe São Paulo in one word would be “unsavory.” There were hoards of homeless people everywhere and a lot of trash in the streets. With a local’s perspective, we likely would’ve been able to see and experience the better parts of the city, but we left wondering if maybe São Paulo is just not meant for international tourists. On the bright side, Minh got to take these pictures with his new camera he bought in Orlando!
